This is a song I wrote this afternoon.

It’s Forty-Six and Raining in Sharon  (click to listen)

It’s forty-six and raining in Sharon today
the trees have shed their leaves
the sky is silver grey

The birds fly in circles
watching from the sky
out in the distance
a plane passes by

and I wonder…
How the world still turns
how smoke still rises
how fire still burns
yet it does and it all goes on
it goes on as it did before
it’s forty-six and raining in Sharon

out in street
cars and trucks go past
traveling out to some place
warm, and low, and vast

and I wonder…
How the world still turns
how smoke still rises
how fire still burns
yet it does and it all goes on
it goes on as it did before
it’s forty-six and raining in Sharon

It’s forty six and raining in Sharon today
the men came by early
dug a hole into the clay
people gather ’round, as if in a dream
some are on their knees, others they just scream

and I wonder…
How the world still turns
how smoke still rises
how fire still burns
yet it does and it all goes on
it goes on as it did before
it’s forty-six and raining in Sharon

It’s forty six and raining in Sharon today
silence is the only thing that’s worthy to say
there’s a logic that’s held by God alone
to us it’s as impenetrable
as the hardest stone

and I wonder…
How the world still turns
how smoke still rises
how fire still burns
yet it does and it all goes on
it goes on as it did before
it’s forty-six and raining in Sharon
it’s forty-six and raining in Sharon
it’s forty-
six and raining in Sharon…

      1. And, alas, it has become daily fare in Israel and some other parts of the world. The real danger is when it becomes so “normalized” in our consciousness that it no longer feels odd for life to continue as usual. There is humanity in our collective horror and outrage at such barbarism that we dare not lose.
