We’ve got a too-small bed
Too small for some that is
Some couples like a big bed
One that puts a river between them
But when words are hard
In our too-small bed
The space between us
Can feel like a river too
So I imagine, if our bed were large
And words were hard
That space would feel like an ocean
And there’s nothing more lonely
Than to be an ocean apart
When you can hear the one you long for
Only inches away
Breathing softly in the middle of the night
Distance is all too often experienced pandimensionally . . .
